Biography

Zohreh Bakhshi is an Iranian multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, woodworking, printmaking, and design. Born in Tehran in 1985, she studied Painting at Sooreh University of Art before continuing her artistic and academic career in the United States. She is currently an MFA candidate in Painting at the University of Houston, where she also serves as a Teaching Fellow, teaching Fundamentals of Drawing to undergraduate students. In addition, she has worked as an Instructional Assistant in the university’s wood and sculpture facilities. Bakhshi’s work often explores memory, domestic space, displacement, and the emotional experience of living in diaspora. Drawing on personal history and cultural references, she works across media to create pieces that connect painting, textile, print, and wood. Her recent projects include the series Distance and Time to Sleep, through which she continues to develop a visual language shaped by migration, intimacy, and belonging. She has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions in Houston and Lockhart, including Carried Home and other recent exhibitions.
