Notes
[In]visibility: Identity and Endurance Brought to Light brought together artists at the University of Houston whose works respond to the urgency of the present moment. Developed through the seminar Art & Identity in the Arab World and Iran: From the Modern Era to Today, the exhibition explored identity, endurance, belonging, diaspora, and the tension between visibility and invisibility. Rather than treating these themes as distant or historical, the show presented them as living realities shaped by cultural memory, migration, politics, tradition, and contemporary experience.
Through interdisciplinary practices, the participating artists examined how personal and collective histories continue to influence the ways we see ourselves and others. The exhibition invited viewers to consider what is visible, what remains hidden, and how stories of place, heritage, displacement, and resilience can be brought to light. Held at Elgin Street Studios in Houston from May 8–15, 2026, the show emphasized the power of shared artistic presence and the moments that bring diverse voices together.
